Bombay || New York Book

A tangled tale of two cities, out Dec 6th, 2024!

About the Book

Bombay || New York is a tribute to those who feel suspended between places they cherish. Through twenty whimsical vignettes, the book draws parallels between daily life in these vibrant megacities, evoking appreciation for where you are, nostalgia for where you long to be, and inviting you to embrace the beauty of the in-between.

About the Creators

Ria Mirchandani (writer) and Shivantika Jain Kothari (illustrator) grew up two minutes apart in Bombay (ten with traffic) and later lived eight subway stops apart in New York. They often found themselves bemoaning the pull of one city while living in the other. This book is their journey in embracing, even celebrating, the state of the in-between.

Reviews

“This is a delightful, playful, quirky book. As a former resident of one city and a current resident of the other, I often spot parallels only to forget them later—as many do. But not these creative minds. The creators of Bombay || New York ingeniously place these similarities (and differences) side by side, making a big world feel much smaller. No matter what you call home, books like these show that there's a mirror of it on the other side of the world.”

- Anuvab Pal, Comedian & Screenwriter

"As an Indian-born New Yorker and current tour guide, raised between Kerala and the Bronx, this book hit home. It’s a relatable take on loving two cities deeply and constantly feeling a tug between them—a must-read for anyone who knows that “home” can be more than one place."

- Jess Joseph, NYC Tour Guide & Founder of Gals About Town
